Community Update on the Future of Tutbury Castle
The recent meeting held at the village hall was a remarkable display of community spirit, with many residents coming together to discuss the future of Tutbury Castle. The consensus was clear: our community strongly supports continued public access to this historic site and desires more events that foster togetherness, such as Jubilee celebrations food markets, and music festivals.
Heather Bull the chair of the Civic Society passionately spoke about the importance of preserving our heritage and ensuring that Tutbury’s significant history remains alive. The community also emphasized the need for educational visits from local schools and the potential for hosting weddings at the castle.
Francis Crossley , the Chair of the Parish Council, highlighted the vital role that tourism and trade generated by visitors to the castle play in supporting local businesses. He pledged that the Parish Council will actively engage with stakeholders to safeguard the future of our Castle.
Jacob Collier MP requested a shopping list of requirements and suggestions from the community. These suggestions would be presented to the CEO of the Duchy of Lancaster. There was also a collective sense of caution regarding the involvement of English Heritage, as this could potentially limit community access and the commercial events that benefit Tutbury.
For those who were unable to speak at the meeting, a suggestion box was available to gather additional feedback. If you would like to stay informed or share your thoughts, please contact Jacob at jacob.collier.mp@parliament.uk.
Together, we can ensure that Tutbury Castle continues to be a vibrant and integral part of our community!
