Peacock Pest Control

Published: May 21, 2024

Peacocks are wild birds and are not the property of the Parish Council. However, we have been receiving numerous complaints from residents regarding the negative impact that large numbers of peacocks have on properties and gardens. The noise and mess caused by these birds can significantly affect the quality of life for those living nearby. To help manage this issue, we ask residents to follow these tips to keep peacocks away from their properties:

  1. Do Not Feed Them: Feeding peacocks encourages them to stay in the area. Please refrain from providing food to these birds.
  2. Remove Any Source of Water: Peacocks are attracted to water sources. Remove or cover any water features in your garden to deter them.
  3. Use Motion Sensor Water Sprinklers: Peacocks dislike getting wet. Installing motion-activated water sprinklers can help keep them at bay.
  4. Install Netting and Spikes: Place netting or spikes on flat roofs and other surfaces where peacocks may perch to prevent them from landing.
  5. Install Stakes: Place stakes in areas where peacocks tend to land to make these spots less appealing.
  6. Sprinkle Chili Powder: Peacocks do not like the taste of chili powder. Sprinkle it in areas where they feed to deter them.
  7. Encourage Predators: Owls are natural predators of peacocks. Consider installing lifelike owl and snake decoys in your garden to scare them away.

We understand that some residents may enjoy seeing peacocks, but it is important to consider the impact this may have on your neighbours. By following these tips, we can help reduce the nuisance caused by peacocks and improve the living conditions for everyone in the parish.

Thank you for your cooperation.
