I wanted to provide you with a further update on Tutbury Castle, as I had an opportunity to speak to Alastair Martin, the CEO of the Duchy of Lancaster, during his visit to Burton with His Majesty The King.
Restoration works on the Castle continue and I am pleased that Alastair has personally visited Tutbury Castle to gain a deeper understanding of its importance.
Public access to Tutbury Castle remains a key concern for our community, and I made this point very clear during our discussion. I was pleased that Alastair reassured me that maintaining some form of public access is a priority for him as well. He recognises how vital the Castle is to local residents, visitors, schools, and the wider community, both as a historic landmark and as a space for education and tourism.
The Duchy has been in conversations with several providers to develop a concrete plan for its future.
These conversations between the Duchy and selecting the right provider are continuing and Alastair was hopeful that something would be decided over the next few months.
We agreed to work together to share news with residents as soon as is available, and I will continue to ensure that the interests of our community are fully represented.
Thank you for your patience and support — I will keep you updated as soon as I have further news.
Best wishes,
Jacob Collier
